This will probably not be too much of a shocker: My life is crazy. Between the kids and the full time job that requires a good deal of travel and the animals and my involvement in our family business…well, life is full.
Because of all this, being productive at the office is critical because I just have so much to do and limited time to get it done.
One of my 2018 goals was to try and be more productive and organized. Enter Jenna Kutcher at the Goal Digger podcast and the idea of “the big three.”
She suggests that every morning before you start your day, you should think about the main tasks you need to accomplish that day. Then select three of them to be your priorities for the day and write them down. You work on those things first–before the black hole that is the email inbox or whatever else inevitably pops up –and get back to the three things throughout the day.
It makes me think of a quote from my colleague Steve, who recently retired, “Let’s not stomp out the piss ants while the elephants run us over!”
I implemented this in January and it has been amazing. I have been able to turn out several publications I had been needing to get done and just hadn’t been able to carve out the time. It keeps me more focused and helps get the important things done, thereby making me more productive.
Give it a try and let me know how it works for you! What other productivity increasing tips so you use?
Thank you for sharing this Tiffany! I have been in desperate need of hearing this lately. Just what the doctor ordered, so thank you!
