Please Don’t Be Angry

“Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the action that we do.” -Mother Teresa

It was a doozy of a night. Everything took seven times longer than it should have. No one cooperated. I had 57 things to do before we left town the next day. I was pouty that no one was helping me. And it had just been a day, you know? I wrecked into my own garage if that tells you anything.

Anyway, after we had to change Braun’s pjs a third time because he didn’t like them, I snapped at him to “just come on!”

And he started crying big crocodile tears and in the most innocent little voice says, “Mama, please don’t be angry.”

And my heart basically broke into a million pieces. I just dropped everything I thought was so important. All the things I needed to get done didn’t matter. I just sat right down on the floor and had a long chat with my boy.

Man, what a reminder that our words and tone and attitude affect so much more than ourselves. And at the end of the day, if we don’t do a good job of being patient and loving and kind to the people in our own homes, we are just missing the whole point.

  1. You know, there are those who can’t hear or aren’t touched by such a plea. How blessed that your responses are so gracious.
Btw, nothing worse than pajamas that don’t feel right!
